Discussion and demonstration of baroque performance practices----bowing techniques, applications of vibrato, and principles of phrase structure---as applied to baroque dance forms and the sonatas and concertos found in the Suzuki books and and among the standard performance repertoire.

BAROQUE Performance Practice for Bass Artists in the 21st Century
INTRODUCTORY SEMINAR

Designed for professional double bassists. Baroque ensemble orientation. Gain a more solid grounding, through collaborative playing and discussion, in basic tenets of historical practice. A primer from which the player can become more comfortable and confident about expressive performance. Players may use any equipment: modern basses, strings, all set-ups and bows welcome. Repertoire may include Gabrielli, Dowland, Bertali, Marais, Purcell, Telemann, Caporale, Vivaldi, Bach, Handel.
