Annual Institute

EMMI participants, in addition to exploring 18th-century performance practices through the preparation of a chamber orchestra concert, have the opportunity to attend

  • seminars and performances, including discussions of the history of string instruments, ornamentation and improvisation and the role of dance in instrumental music
  • technique clinics (both general and instrument specific)
  • small chamber ensemble sessions (This will begin with coaching in the morning, followed by practice time and more coaching in the afternoon-players may audit these sessions if they do not wish to perform)
  • baroque dance classes introducing some of the basic step patterns and arm movements which are key to interpreting instrumental baroque dance forms
